CURRICULUM

From Grade 1 to 8 the school will follow its own curriculum. From grade 9, the school will offer subjects of both National and International curriculum in Science and Commerce streams where students may select their stream of study.

Elementary

The emphasis here is placed on developing individual skills and group activity. Language and Mathematical Skills, Elementary Science, Environmental Studies, Music, Ballet, Drama, Art, Hand work and Physical Education are areas that will be strongly emphasized at this level.

Primary (Grades 1-5)

The curriculum here consists of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Sinhala / Tamil, Religion, Art & Hand work, Singing, Speech & Drama, Kandyan Dancing, Physical & Health Education, Education in Human Values, Effective Speech & Swimming.

Secondary School (Grades 6 – 8)

Students can select either National or International curriculum for their Ordinary Level

International Ordinary Level

Subject combinations related to science and commerce streams will be available for students to select for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (International Stream). A student has to select seven (7) subjects at this level.

GCE Advanced Level (International & National)

The subject combinations related to science and commerce streams will be available for students to select for their GCE Advanced Level in International or National Curriculum.

Other subjects: Effective Speech, Physical & Health Education (PE), Religion & Cultural Dancing

The school will present its students who reach the appropriate standards, for the International Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Examinations in May/June and the National Ordinary Level in December and National Advanced Level (in the English Medium) in August each year.

Religious Education

Religion will be taught to all students from Grade 1 and above. Provision is made to teach Buddhism, Catholicism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism so that the spiritual needs of the students are also looked after.

Sinhala / Tamil

Sinhala/ Tamil will be taught as the second language in Grades 1 to 8. Even foreign students have to study Sinhala or Tamil.

Provision for study of other languages

In addition to English which is the medium of instruction and considered as the mother tongue, the students can select French as an additional language from Grade 6.

Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular Activities

We believe that co-curricular and extra-curricular activities help students to develop in numerous ways where a normal class room situation may not avail.

It is our aim to provide an all-round education to our students. Hence we plan to provide students with all facilities needed to be engaged in numerous co-curricular and extra-curricular activities while in school.

Most of the school level activities will be organized on “house” basis, and the students from grade 1 will be assigned to houses at the admission.

Music

It is found that there are many benefits of music. It is revealed that music boosts and strengthens learning, Memory, IQ, academic performance and intelligence. In school, singing will be taught up to grade 5 and music will be offered as an optional subject in grades 6 to 8.

Western, Kandyan & Cultural Dancing

Kandyan Dancing will be done for Grades 1-5 and can be offered as an optional subject for students of grades 6 to 8.

Speech and Drama

Speech and Drama will improve students’ communication, interpersonal skills and train them to be global citizens. School teaches speech and drama from nursery to Grade 8.

Students talented in music can take part in these activities.

Cubbing, Scouting, Guiding & Little Friends

Cub-scouting, Scouting, Guiding and Little Friends will be conducted for boys and girls from Grade 2 onwards.

Debating / Scrabble / Chess/ General Knowledge / Clubs

Students from Grade 3 and above will be given opportunities to take part in these events which will be held after school to improve various skills and for recreational purposes.

Art & Handwork

Art and Handwork gives children an opportunity for self-expression. It helps them to improve their fine motor skill and build resilience and more over unlock creativity in them. Art will be taught up to Grade 5, From Grade 6 to 8 it will be an optional subject. Fine examples of pupils’ art will be exhibited in the college display unit be it a drawing, painting, or a sketch. Students will be encouraged to take part in art competitions held outside the school. Visits to galleries and museums will be organized whenever possible.

Sports Activities

Sports not only help people to be physically fit and healthy but also build confidence, self-esteem and courage in them. The sports activities which will be available are swimming, athletics and self-defence (Karate), Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Tennis, Badminton, Cub-scouting, Scouting, Little Friends, Girl-Guiding, Table Tennis, Chess & Scrabble. The school will provide the services of professional coaches of the highest calibre in almost all these sporting areas so that our students can get the best of training.

The school will comprise of a library, air conditioned computer centres, Science Laboratories, Cricket Nets, Netball Court, Tennis Court, Basketball Court, Gymnasium, Canteen, Health centre, Swimming Pool and a Kiddies Park.
